providing a healing environment for immunosuppressed, acute leukaemia patients within a bone marrow transplant unit.
my dissertation focused on the ability of interior design to improve patient outcomes for humans suffering serious and/or terminal illness. my research focused on varied design methodologies and ways in which designers can implement them to create environments within healthcare facilities to support healing and reduce stress for patients, visitors and staff.
diagrammatic analysis, design development and adherence to australian healthcare design guidelines enabled me to create a method for designing patient environments based on the psychological and physiological needs of the patient. collective analysis of my studies identified the pertinence of design flexibility in the sense that when patients are able to influence their own environment it may improve their sense of wellbeing and comfort. this is achieved through various mediums of distraction and sensory stimulation such as artistic installation and implementation of colour, light, aroma and sound.Interior Design2012 -

influenced by the human body this intimate cocktail lounge explores the layering of materials to create a sumptuous and opulent space. solid bar tables and soft lounge seating express the entirety and solid nature of the human body, whilst the detailing of wall finishes and light fittings illustrate the intricacies of our form. the space is designed to reflect the sexuality and sensuality of human nature, with tactile finishes including soft memory foam as well as mirrored tabletops to absorb the forms of its occupants. the lounge is encapsulating, it encourages people to move closer together and be swept into an atmosphere of fantasy, able to express themselves freely and honestly.Interior Design2012 -

the fremantle on the edge project began with a 3 day intensive workshop with international artist COCKY EEK. we proposed to undertake a series of experiments at three sites including the woolstores, b shed and a narrow laneway on phillimore street, fremantle, western australia. these experiments resulted in large scale installations which were aimed at removing focus from the threatening nature of the site.Interior Design2012 -
